This is a very cheap ($[...] w/rebate on Newegg) card and the specs are splendid. It runs all my games (mostly RTS) perfectly on the highest settings - RTW, M2TW, ETW (not on the highest settings, but pretty close), AoEIII, Mount&Blade Warband, Anno 1404, EEII, etc. Works without problems with my meagre PSU (300W). Does not get hot and is VERY QUIET - I cannot hear it at all without opening up the case.
This is actually a pretty good gaming video card for all but the most demanding games. And its price is unbelievable. Also, it is backwards compatible with my PCI Express version 1 slot.
I was very satisfied overall. This is THE card for those who have to put up with shoddy integrated GPUs and want to upgrade without shelling out a bunch. Good video cards are expensive, and frankly speaking, I lacked the commitment to spend $150+ on a piece of hardware whose only real effect for me was improved gaming performance. A video card upgrade will often be the most costly purchase for most computer enthusiasts seeking to improve their existing rigs. This card takes away the financial considerations due to its amazing price.
Also, to address the customer support issue, I have called Galaxy on two occasions, and have received phone support within five minutes or less both times. Oh, and the person at the other end actually spoke good English. That was my experience.
Cons: Nothing really so far - you are not getting the GTX 570, you are getting a budget card. This is a low-end card, but it is on the (very) high-end of the low-end, if you know what I mean. It will more than do for HD video, and the card does come with HDMI output, for those of you who may wish to use this card for a HDTV PC setup. It will do for all games, as long as you are not shy about playing on medium settings - something which I was not forced to do yet, but with newer games coming out, I may soon be.
For Reference:
My rig (nominally an HP a1510n, but everything except the PSU was upgraded):
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ @ 2.2Ghz
- 4GB DDR RAM
- One Seagate Barracuda SATA drive (250GB) and a second IDE Seagate Barracuda (also 250GB) slaved to it.
- The Galaxy GT220
- Lite-on CD/DVD burner
- Hipro 300W PSU (with 19 amps on the 12+ volt bus)
