I replaced a piece of junk Xpert 128 (as in 128, 256, 512meg ram) Because this is an AGP (NOT PCI) graphics board, all memory for graphics manipulation is done by the board, Not the computer mother board ram. I personally like this set up, and it seems to be coming back with applications using more and more system (mother board) ram. The mother board I installed on is an ASUS K8u-x with an AMD Athlon 64 300 chip. I did not want to spend a lot of money on this setup that replaced a 12 year old Pentium 2 motherboard that crashed, so that is why the ASUS.
I no longer get the dreaded jittery or frozen cursor and strange looking graphics with code lines instead of pictures, and the movies don't stop to buffer anymore.
GET AS MUCH AGP RAM AS YOU CAN!!!! This is true for PCI boards also, but not as critical as with AGP.
