(More customer reviews)After doing some research online the Sewell Minideck USB to DVI kept coming up as the solution to my problem; connecting an additional monitor to my 2008 Alum Macbook. I already have an external monitor attached via HDMI to Display Port but wanted more monitor "real-estate".
The Minideck does its job by allowing me to connect a 3rd monitor to my computer.
If you have done your research, you already know that USB to video output has its problems and unfortunately this contraption does not do away with the "lag factor". Moving the mouse has a SLIGHT bit of a lag as well as moving windows around on the screen. This might be because I have the monitor connected VGA - Swell Minideck - USB, i've ordered a DVI cord, so hopefully that will help with the lagginess.
The lag factor is NOT a deal-breaker though, it just takes time to get used to. Of course you wouldn't want to run any video (youtube) on the usb connected screen, but for simple web browsing and word/spreadsheet processing it does its job.
I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to add an additional monitor to their current MAC OS X setup!
Update: Connected monitor to HDMI to DVI and plugged into Minideck. Lag is SLIGHTLY reduced compared to VGA to Minideck which is worth noting.
