(More customer reviews)I love this thing; works great. Though it came with limited instruction but its use is quite intuitive. Just install the software, plug it in the USB port on your PC and the other end to whatever device you have and voila. Of course, there is a learning curve but it's not too steep, seriously. Pics look great, what you see on your tape is what you get in your digital file. You can even tweak the colors and white balancing but I found it best not to mess with it (I tried but returned to the default settings). The software program ULead is a great program to edit and make movies. I highly recommend this device.
One thing though: You need a composite cable to connect to your VHS/BETA player and a male-male S-Video cable to connect to your Hi8 camcorder. These cables cost just a few dollars either at BestBuy or on eBay. Actually if you still have your VHS player, you should still have that old composite cable (with red, white and yellow jacks).
